MAY 28 STAR OF THE WEEK- TURNING A CAR SHOW INTO AN ART SHOW
This picture was the Star of the Week for one simple reason-it’s just that good. The Star of the Day is usually centered on one theme. It could be an interesting car, interesting location, interesting back-story and it usually has a good picture to accompany the text. This is simply a great picture. It encompasses an interesting car (Pontiac Parisienne Convertible) but the real story is in the background with the young father and his son looking at a 50s classic. That’s what the hobby is all about summed up in one fantastic photo. I’d like to take credit for it but this picture was taken by Darren Sutherland. By definition, he’s not a car guy but he sure knows how to capture and highlight a moment. He took a camera to a car show and next month’s Stars of the Show section is going to feature 42 of his pictures. You won’t be disappointed-he turns these cars into art. js MAY 27 STAR OF THE DAY – 59 FORD CONVERTIBLE…THEY’LL NEVER BE ANOTHER ERA LIKE THE LATE 50S The late 1950s was an era of chrome fins and over the top styling…in other words, a classic automotive era. This was the Detroit equivalent of the Space Race and it left a legacy. This 1959 Ford is a great example of that historical period because it dominated the street that day. It was surrounded in traffic by generic looking 21st Century cars and this red and white beauty stole the show. Love them or hate them, a late 50s ride will always make a bold statement- nothing today even comes close. js MAY 26 STAR OF THE DAY – A RAMBLER AND TRAILER The excitement produced by Ramblers barely registered on the car guy Richter scale-until you realized that a Rambler is a very rare vehicle on today’s roads. Ramblers have disappeared off the face of the planet as an under-appreciated brand that never got enough love from car buyers. Rambler owners were well aware that their car was a better car than its staid exterior suggested to most people. These days that staid exterior will draw a crowd everywhere it goes, and this Rambler was crossing the country- while pulling a trailer. The Rambler brand is now celebrated for its unique look, even if that look failed to turn heads when it was young and part of a living car company that bore its name. Age and scarcity has made these cars serious head-turners in 2011. JS MAY 25 STAR OF THE DAY – THE ROOTS OF THE CORVETTE
At My Star Collector Car our constant quest is to study and celebrate the evolution of the past-specifically the automotive past. These two Model Ts are the perfect example. The Corvette didn’t spring up overnight as the first North American sports car-in fact the concept is as old as the industry itself. The Model T Speedster beside the stock T is the original Corvette-long before 1953. js MAY 24 STAR OF THE DAY 1954 DODGE FOUR DOOR The romance of the past was evident in this car/trailer rig from a bygone era. It was part of a cross-country caravan of vintage vehicles and we plan to do a story on this Dodge. This shot said “yesterday once more” with the ’58 Chevy wagon in the background. js MAY 23 2011 STAR OF THE DAY-1931 BUICK HEARSE…MUNSTERMOBILE
The whole idea behind this spooky 1931 Buick hearse picture was a “Scary Rides” theme for Halloween. The problem was that this picture was taken in mid-summer but the weather gods cooperated and this gloomy picture was ready for scaring kids. This was a lot like The Munsters Hearse…scary on the surface but in reality this old Buick hot rod was far more interesting than horrifying . js TO CHECK OUT LAST WEEK’S STARS CLICK HERE…https://www.mystarcollectorcar.com/2-features/star-car-tunes/1135-may-22-star-of-the-week-furious-fins58-plymouth.html
