Vintage iron may be found under the heading “machine” over “living organism” but natural laws still apply. For example, oxidation is a process that can affect mammals and Mercurys alike…in Mercurys they call it rust.
Old cars can and will dissolve into an organic mass after a period of time and so will we. Just ask your average couch potato how that steady diet of zero activity, a bag of chips and doing nothing is working out over the long term.
Cars can go down that same shaky road if they’re neglected and ultimately you end up with a Fallen Star. Unlike human beings, the ending for older cars and trucks can be abrupt and catastrophic to the point where a specialist is needed.
Most vintage vehicles don’t have a great medical plan so that trip to the car cemetery is an immediate possibility. Some of these old rides have, or will have specialists on their side – specialists who will give them a new lease on life.
Some won’t.
Either way, take comfort in the knowledge that these old classics face the same irrefutable natural laws that you will.
