This past weekend was car guy heaven because our town hosted a major car show that only comes around here every three years.

The net result was a huge influx of vintage cars and trucks that dominated the spotlight on the streets in our town for several days.

It was a car guy’s dream weekend and the interest levels were off the chart as we witnessed car after car that reminded many of us of our younger days. The good vibrations picked up over 40 years ago in song by the Beach Boys could be found everywhere and anywhere there was pavement to drive these classic rides in Red Deer.

Undoubtedly, all of us have dreamed about these vehicles for most of our lives because we’re car guys. We have seen the custom rods, the classics, the muscle cars, and everything in between over the years. We wished that we could own them as kids and many car guys finally realized their dreams later in life when circumstances gave them a chance to purchase their dream cars.

You never know who will get bitten by the car guy bug because the moment will hit somebody when they least expect it.

I was on my way into a supermarket late one afternoon during the car show when two classic Chevys pulled into the parking lot. One was a wild looking orange 1960 Chevy four door hardtop and the other was a stock-looking 1964 Chevy Impala two door hardtop.

A young family was in the parking lot and their daughter spotted the ‘64. She had an instant unbridled reaction to the car and told her parents that she loved that car and wanted one someday.

Mom and Dad did not strike me as car guy types so they had a much less excited reaction to the white Impala. But their daughter was adamant about the car of her dreams, despite their reservations.

My hat goes off to that little girl…

She was probably not even ten years old and she was already a car guy plus she’ll probably will own a 1964 Chevrolet Impala at some point in her life.

Good on her for such wise choices at a young age.
