What makes the perfect car guy?
‘What are the pieces that separate the perfect car guy from the rest of the pack?’
We decided to compose a list here at MSCC that will reveal the pieces of the car guy puzzle.
The perfect car guy is one part visionary. He can see the finish line on the distant horizon when he looks at a rusted hulk and envisions the gleaming beauty at the end of the project.
The perfect car guy is one part artist. He can take a stock ride and turn it into his own personal statement of customized creativity. He can massage sheet metal into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece built from his own imagination.
The perfect car guy is one part genius. He understands the mathematical science behind his project and he can make the weight to horsepower numbers work on his project.
The perfect car guy is one part patience. He knows the road to a great finish on a project is a long and winding one that will test his boundaries day in and day out. He will never say “Are we there yet?” along the way because he knows you get there when you get there on a project.
The perfect car guy is one part surgeon. He will cut out the cancer and weld in healthy replacement metal tissue. He can hold on to small bolts and insert them back into places he cannot even see because he has the fine touch of a neurosurgeon.
The perfect car guy is one part negotiator. He can convince a hostile spouse to give up a space in a garage so he can work on his project while she brushes the snow off her car sitting in the driveway every day during the winter.
The perfect car guy is one part detective. For example, he can search through the mystery of the butchered electrical system and solve it like he was an automotive version of Jim Rockford.
The perfect car guy is one part bloodhound. He can track down missing parts with the enthusiasm of the dogs that chased Cool Hand Luke-or die trying like one of the movie mutts chasing Luke.
The perfect car guy is one part innovator. If necessary, he will build a part or tool to help finish his project ride when all else fails for him.
The perfect car guy is one part John Wayne. He knows he will face tough situations along the way to the end of his project and he will not whimper or whine about his problems. He will just get the project done and ride into the sunset in it.
The perfect car guy is one part listener. He realizes there are other car guys who can provide him with information that will help him advance his project because they have already been down the same road and are willing to share their knowledge.
Finally, the perfect car guy is one part magician.
He can make rust disappear like it was never there-even though it takes much longer than an instant to disappear when it comes to car guy magic.
