PUTTING THE ‘BASH’ BACK IN BASHAW—SHOW AND SHINE 2026

Bashaw, Alberta is named after Eugene Bashaw; a founding father in the area who won the land in a poker game.

This is big farm and oil country—think Texas North because the driving economic factors are the same.

The best part about Bashaw is how they preserved the historical buildings, and by extension, the history of the town. That’s why they host the car show on the main street because the old iron fits like a glove in front of the old buildings like the local theater.

One of the buildings was a jail that housed Robert Raymond Cook, a notorious mass murderer in the late 50s, so that proved Bashaw was comprehensive in its historical sites. It was also interesting on a personal note because my uncle was the RCMP officer who arrested him.

The parade was kiddie paradise because every entry was flinging candy and toys, so it was a rolling Halloween party. The kids were going berserk for obvious reasons because it was a candy rain shower through the whole parade.

The first vehicle I found was a 1979 Dodge pickup.

This was a well-crafted tribute to a Little Red Express-ish truck, so it had curb appeal for show goers. It also had something under the hood that didn’t sit well with its new Mopar-centric owner. Learn how he’s going to make the changes in 2027 on MyStarCollectorCar.

The second classic I found was a 1955 Meteor four-door sedan. This was another rescued-from-a-brutally-long hibernation story.

It’s a good one with a few twists and turns you’ll learn about in 2027 on the pages of MyStar.

Jim found a 1957 Chevy resto-mod pickup. These trucks are incredibly popular so you’ll one at every show.

You won’t see one this nice because it was a show stealer at Bashaw and there were a few other examples at the event. You’ll learn all about it next year on MyStar.

Jim found another truck with a far different background. It was a 1979 GMC one-ton with incredibly low mileage.

You’ll learn how this work truck survived with such a low odometer number on it in 2027 when it goes live on MyStar. It’s going to be worth the wait.

There’s going to be another truck story on MyStar next year and it will be a 1980 Dodge D-150. This is another one of those recreate–past-youth stories.

You’ll get all the details next year on MyStar.

There was another happy note to the Bashaw show because I found a truck that Jim didn’t get enough pictures of back in May at another car show.

That’s right—I bailed him out…once again.

You came away from small town shows with a sense of what real community is all about. Bashaw is a great example because the place of full of friendly, hospitable people.

That’s something you never see in the big city—too bad it’s becoming a lost culture.
