FIVE AREAS OF COMMON GROUND BETWEEN IDENTICAL TWINS AND OLD CARS

MyStarCollectorCar has discussed the identical twin factor many times over the past 17 years since our first day of operation on April 2nd, 2009.

Mainly because we (the founders) are identical twins and have experienced a lifetime under the spotlight.

Which brings us to our first point in an article about the similarities between identical twins and old cars, or trucks for that matter. The simple fact is twins are uncommon, and old vehicles get less common as the ravages of time eliminate the old iron one by one.

Older MyStarCollectorCar reader will likely remember a bygone era when VW Beetles ruled the road except in the fast lane. The only people who noticed the large swarm of Beetles were likely kids engaged in a vicious game of Punch Buggy wherein the first kid who spotted a Beetle earned the right to slug the kid next to him in a car. It was often called the Beautiful Game by young sadists riding in the back seat.

These days Beetles get plenty of attention because they have virtually disappeared from the road and are a rare sight in 2026, so they share the scarcity feature with identical twins.

The second similarity between twins and old cars is any scenario where one twin is not in the same place, and a vintage vehicle owner is not in his or her old car.  As a result, the relentless glare of the public spotlight is not aimed at the twin or the old car owner when either of them is doing a solo act.

The third area of common ground between identical twins and vintage rides? The twins and car owners will be required to answer plenty of questions from an inquisitive public. Both twin and old car sightings will be an unusual part of other people’s day, so the encounters will prompt the public-at-large to ask about the visual oddity in their immediate surroundings.

Which brings us to the fourth similarity between identical twins and old cars: most of the questions will be the same and repeated many times by many different people over the course of any given encounter. Mercifully, both the twins and the car owners have likely adjusted to the usual question pattern and will answer accordingly, depending upon the nature of the inquiries.

Unfortunately, our fifth and final point about the similarities between identical twins and vintage cars also relates to questions, specifically the really dumb and annoying ones. There are too many questions that should never have passed through the question asker’s vocal cords and escaped into the open air.

Identical twins and car owners will be asked stupid questions on a painfully regular basis and, as an added bonus, some of the moronic inquiries will insult the twins themselves or the owners’ vehicles, depending upon the circumstance. Boundaries of good taste will be crossed, and the saddest part is that the person who asked the question will not even realize they have insulted somebody or their old car, mainly because the question askers just aren’t that bright.

So, there you have it, even if you never thought about the common ground between identical twins and owners of old cars.
