MyStarCollectorCar began life on April 2, 2009 and like the Grateful Dead once said back in ‘70, “What a long strange trip it’s been”.
There are no defined rules in this game because a new online magazine doesn’t come with instructions.
It’s a lot more like how old school hot-rodders built rides back in the day because you learn what fits by trial and error and investing thousands of hours in the learning process.
You can write about old iron even if you don’t know anything about the process but to really get this world you have to bleed motor oil. If a really well built classic deuce Ford doesn’t take your pulse rate up to jackhammer levels, then you probably shouldn’t write about old cars.
Survivor ’68 Road Runners should twist your emotions into a pretzel, not just because they’re such cool cars but because you remember the love at first sight feeling you had the first day you saw one. It’s like the car guy version of every romance movie ever made because a mint Road Runner can make you misty-eyed. If you aren’t moved to that point then you probably shouldn’t write about old cars.
The same emotions apply to old school wrecking yards. If you don’t get a surge of uncontrollable emotions every time you see a classic car crop, you might not be qualified to write about old iron. This is a gut level world so if you’re lucky enough to see a place where 50s iron dominates the horizon, you should react like it’s Christmas Eve and you’re nine years old. If you don’t then you probably shouldn’t write about old cars.
Other guy’s rides should bring you the same joy you feel when your kid gets an A in school because you know what it takes to get a car to any level. If you don’t feel the same pride and excitement the owner has then you probably shouldn’t write about old cars.
